Quick & Easy Creamed Spinach

This Creamed Spinach is a great side dish to add to any meal and it is a fairly simple dish to whip together and it doesn’t take much time to complete.

I grew up on cartoons like Popeye. As I may have stated before, that was the only way I was tricked into actually enjoying my green veggies. It definitely doesn’t take much to get me to eat spinach now because when you pair it with just about anything — it’s even more awesome. 

Why does adding cream to dishes made it so much better? The fresh leaf spinach cooked down blended with a butter and garlic combination really adds lots of flavors. The addition of the whipping cream and Parmesan cheese takes this Creamed Solinach recipe to “must-have” status.

How to Make Creamed Spinach:

You’ll begin this process by warming up your cooking pan to medium heat and adding your butter. Make sure the heat isn’t so hot that it turns the butter brown when it hits the pan. Browned butter has its place, but not in this recipe. 🙂

Once the butter melts, add in your garlic, stir, and cook for at least a minute.

You will then add the fresh spinach to the heated pan and cook for 3 to 5 more minutes until the spinach begins to wilt. Add in remaining seasoning (onion powder, ground ginger, garlic powder, and black pepper.

You may be thinking…why ginger? It will surprise you and I use it often. Ginger has a zest to it that’s a little spicy and a little sweet.

Slowly add the whipping cream and Parmesan cheese evenly over the spinach then adjust the heat to a lower temperature.

Cook the spinach for and additional 5 minutes then remove from heat. You will be able to serve immediately.

Side thought — Why does it seem as though you have a ton of spinach only to find that what you thought could feed a family of 4 is only enough for 2? It never amazes me how much fresh spinach cooks down.

There are plenty of ways to add this delicious side dish alongside your main dish. It would be the perfect complement to any chicken or fish entree.

Plus, if you have a hard time getting the kids to eat greens just turn on an old episode of Popeye breaking out his can of spinach to take down Bluto and it may have them cleaning their plates!

Instructions

1. Begin by pre-heating cooking pan at medium heat then add butter.
2. Once the butter begins to melt, add minced garlic and allow to cook for 1 minute.
3. Add spinach and all seasonings to cooking pan and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the spinach begins to wilt. Add whipping cream and Parmesan cheese to cooking pan and cook on medium/low heat for 5 minutes or until it binds and remove from heat.
4. Serve immediately.
