Is this blueberry smoothie healthy?

Absolutely! Every single ingredient is high in nutritional value. There are also no added sugars. The ingredients combined in this berry smoothie recipe create an excellent blend of nutrients that are good for your brain, help boost the immune system, support digestive health, and reduce inflammation.

So what exactly are Superfoods?

One food group I think is very important to mention is the “Superfood” group. To clarify, Superfoods don’t technically have their own food group, but they’re easily identifiable. They have many rich nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that can help fight diseases and help us live healthier lives.

Some superfoods contain antioxidants believed to help fight cancer, healthy fats to help prevent heart disease, and fiber that assists with diabetes prevention and digestive problems. Avocados, blueberries, spinach, turmeric, chia seeds, garlic, and green tea are all types of superfoods, to name a few. Superfoods help us more than we realize.

Ingredients you’ll need to make a blueberry banana spinach smoothie:

  • Blueberries in smoothies are a great idea! Frozen blueberries are high in antioxidants, vitamin K1, manganese, and vitamin C, and naturally regulate blood sugar. They also help us age gracefully.
  • Ripe bananas are high in potassium, vitamin B6, and manganese and are great for blood pressure. Since blueberries aren’t very sweet, adding a banana gives the smoothie natural sweetness.
  • Another superfood, fresh-leaf spinach, is excellent for iron, blood pressure, and cancer prevention and has many other benefits.
  • Peanut butter may prevent heart disease, lower bad cholesterol, and support a healthy immune system. You can substitute almond butter, which is slightly lower in sugar and higher in other nutrients than peanut butter. The substitute ratio is 1:1.
  • Greek yogurt gives the smoothie a creamy consistency and serves as a probiotic that helps with digestion and is protein-rich.
  • Ground ginger and cinnamon reduce inflammation, leading to weight loss and an immune boost.
  • Lastly, pomegranate juice is rich in antioxidants, may help keep inflammation at bay, and supports digestive health. Note: Be aware of the sugar content of any fruit juice you add to your smoothie. Go for the 100% juice versions with no added sugar.

Sometimes, we are unaware of the nutritional value we get from the foods we eat, so I wanted to give a quick overview of the benefits you will get from this smoothie.

Do you put ice in a smoothie?

If you are using frozen fruits and other cold ingredients, you really don’t need to. Adding ice will thicken your smoothie at first, but as the ice melts, you’ll be left with a diluted thin consistency. If you are using fresh fruit, add a small amount of ice to cool your smoothie.
