Chicken wings are one of my favorite recipes to make for family dinners or when hosting guests. Because wings are so versatile, there are many ways to enjoy them.
This version takes baked, not fried, wings and tosses them twice in homemade wing glaze made using honey, fresh lemon, and garlic. With this recipe, your wings will turn out crispy and juicy every single time! The fresh lemon zest and herbs placed this house favorite at the top of the list.
These wings will upgrade your gameday menu and are great with a side of blue cheese or ranch.

- To season and bake the chicken, you will need chicken wings, dried thyme, dried basil, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
- For the wing glaze, you will combine fresh lemon juice, honey, grapeseed oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, tarragon, and butter. You will also need fresh lemon zest and dried basil. Raw, unfiltered honey is best, and garlic cloves or garlic powder can be substituted for the minced garlic.
How to make the chicken wings:
Cut wing flat from drums. You will begin by cutting your chicken wings at the joints to separate the drumette, flat, and tip. You can also purchase wings that are already separated.
Season the wings. Place the wings in a large bowl and season well with dried thyme, dried basil, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss to spread the seasonings evenly, then place on a lightly greased, non-stick baking sheet (paid link).
Bake the wings. Bake the wings at 425 degrees for 25 minutes, then flip them over and bake for an additional 15 minutes. While the wings are baking, work on the glaze.
Make the wing glaze. Add all the ingredients, minus the lemon zest and basil, to a small cooking pot. Cook on medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, then remove from the heat.
Glaze the wings. Place the baked wings in a large bowl, pour half of the glaze over them, toss, and return them to the oven to bake for an additional 10 minutes.
Serve. Remove the wings from the oven and place them in a large bowl. Pour the remaining glaze over them, along with the basil and lemon zest. Toss evenly and serve.
Tips & Tricks
- Arrange wings, skin side up first to bake.
- Deep frying is not the only way to make extra crispy chicken wings! Looking for an even crispier wing? Simply sprinkle a little baking powder on the wings before baking them. Baking powder makes skin extra crisp by absorbing extra moisture. You would need about 1 tablespoon for this recipe.
- You can also use frozen chicken wings, but you will need to let them thaw first and increase your baking time. In this case, wait to season the wings halfway through cooking.
