Description

Instant Pot (paid link) French Dip Sandwich made with toasted French bread, juicy beef, covered in melted provolone cheese, and served with Au jus.


Ingredients

  • 2 lb chuck roast beef
  • 2 1/4 tsp sea salt, divided
  • 2 tsp black pepper, divided
  • 2 tsp basil flakes
  • 1 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1/3 cup raw unfiltered honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground thyme
  • 1 sage stem
  • 2 rosemary stems
  • 3 french roll buns, toasted
  • 6 provolone cheese slices


Instructions

  1. Turn the Instant Pot (paid link) to the “Saute” setting. Once warm. season the chuck roast evenly with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, and basil flakes.
  2. Add cooking oil to the Instant Pot (paid link) and sear the chuck roast for 2 minutes per side. Remove from heat.
  3. Add the chopped onions, and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Change the setting on the Instant Pot (paid link) to “Pressure Cook” and adjust the time to 45 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, honey, beef stock, 1 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, garlic powder, ground thyme, sage stem, and rosemary stems.
  6. Place the seared chuck roast into the beef stock and spoon liquid over the chuck roast. Close the lid and lock.
  7. Once complete, slow release for an additional 10 minutes before manually releasing the pressure.
  8. Remove the beef from the pot and shred it apart with a fork or handheld mixer.
  9. Build your sandwich by cutting the French roll bun lengthwise, spreading with butter, and toasting.
  10. Fill each toasted roll with provolone cheese and shredded beef.
  11. Add at least a cup of the Au jus into a bowl and add ¼ tsp of salt. Serve on the side.
